Obituaries

Sister Mary Capozzelli, M.P.F.

A

Mass of Christian

Burial was celebrat-

ed Oct. 14 at Villa Walsh,

Morristown, for Sister

Mary Capozzelli, M.P.F.,

100, who died Oct. 11.

Sr. Mary entered the Religious

Teachers Filippini in 1925, received

her habit in 1932, and made her final

religious profession in 1935.

Following assignments in Penn-

sylvania and Ohio, Sister Mary

spent 50 years at Saint Rocco, Union

City, where she was director of the

preschool, and also responsible for

the religious education program, and

served as musician and sacristan.

Sr. Mary spent her last five

years in active ministry at Saint

Francis Xavier School, Newark, as

a teacher aide and then retired at

Villa Walsh. She was also a local

superior for 31 years.

Sister Mary Agnes Hanley, S.C.

celebrated Nov. 7 at The Vil-

la at Florham Park for

Sister Mary Agnes Han-

ley, S.C., 94, who died

Nov. 3.

Born in Jersey City,

Sr. Mary Agnes (Jose-

phine) entered the Sisters of Charity

Sept. 8, 1940 and was a member for

76 years.

Sr. Mary Agnes graduated from

the College of Saint Elizabeth,

Convent Station, with a bachelor’s

degree in education. She served as

a teacher at Saint Mary Elemen-

tary School, Nutley; Sacred Heart

School, Bloomfield; Saint Mary

School, Jersey City; Saint Patrick

School, Jersey City; Immaculate

Conception School, Montclair;

Sacred Heart School, Newark;

and at Saint Rose of Lima School,

Newark.

Sr. Mary Agnes was also admit-

ting clerk at Saint Joseph Hospital

& Medical Center, Paterson. She

worked in the treasurer’s office at

Saint Elizabeth Convent and was

first Dean of Students at the Acade-

my of Saint Elizabeth. In 2015, she

retired to the Villa.

during the annual Baby

Bottle Campaign. For the

past 35 years, Several

Sources has offered hous-

ing for mothers and their

Sister Eileen Dolan, S.C.

Mass of Christian

Burial was celebrat-

ed Nov. 9 at The Villa at

Florham Park for Sister

Eileen Dolan, S.C., 91,

who died Nov. 5.

Born in Jersey City, Sr. Eileen

entered the Sisters of Charity on

March 25, 1943 and was a member

for 73 years. She graduated from the

College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent

Station, with a bachelor’s degree in

music and from the Catholic Uni-

versity of America, Washington, DC

with a master’s degree in music.

Sr. Eileen was a teacher at Saint

Anastasia School, Teaneck; Sacred

Heart School, Newark; Saint Cecilia

High School, Englewood; and Moth-

er Seton Regional High, Clark. She

taught music and was chair of the

music department at the College of

Saint Elizabeth. She was also mu-

sic minister at Immaculate Heart of

Mary School in Scotch Plains and

was music consultant at the Byz-

antine Catholic Diocesan Center,

Woodland Park.
