Tobin, C.Ss.R., joined teachers, faculty and staff of the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of Newark for a special Mass on Sept. 28 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Cardinal Tobin prayed for a successful school year. He encouraged those in attendance to use the gifts the Lord gave them and to help their students develop their own gifts. In his homily, Cardinal Tobin referenced John 13, where Jesus says, “You call me ‘teacher’” after washing the disciples’ feet. Addressing the crowd, the cardinal noted that “Jesus would feel right at home with you.” The St. Dominic Academy Chamber Choir performed throughout the Mass. Following the celebration, those teachers marking milestone anniversaries were honored. The teacher of the year was also named. For more information on that, turn to the Fall Open House section starting on page 22.
